Andrea Friedman Ishikawa received masters degrees from both the University of Illinois in Champaign and from Columbia College. In 1984 she began training in the Chinese martial arts of Tai Chi and Qi Gong, The power of these systems of healing made such an impact on Andrea that she decided to study acupuncture, a comprehensive system of healing designed to bring the body and mind into a state of harmony and balance.
In addition to graduating from the Midwest Center for Oriental Medicine in 1988, Andrea completed 2 internships in Nanjing and Hang Zhou, followed by Chi Gong training with Master Sun at the University of Shanghai. She then had 2 years of postgraduate training with pulse master, Sung Baek, M.D./acupuncturist. She has traveled to Taiwan 3 times to learn and refine her knowledge with a Taiwanese teacher.
Andrea learned about herbs while studying at the Chinese Institute for Herbology as well as with master herbalist Dr. Zhengang Guo. She became nationally board certified in Chinese herbs in 2003.
After working at the Center for Holistic Medicine for 2 years and at Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group Center for Integrative Medicine for 7 years, Andrea learned to appreciate the value of the integrative medical model of blending the best of East and West. She believes natural healing can be a primary or adjunctive intervention, but that both systems have a place in our health care, depending on the patients needs.
While at Northwestern, Andrea was featured on prime time news on channel 5 and channel 9 as well as the Health section in the Sun Times, where she discussed the value of acupuncture to enhance fertility. She continues to enjoy the challenges of this unique area of expertise and has helped many women through successful pregnancies. (See Press page for full article)

Andrea is currently the co-owner of Healing Spring Acupuncture Center in Glenview, Illinois since 2002 where she has been working in partnership with her good friend Mitzi.
Her mission is to serve as a catalyst to help others find balance in their lives, improve health conditions, and connect to their innate source of healing.
